Educational Philosophy
In my opinion, teaching America's youth is a great responsibility, which should be reserved for those who are not only willing, but also qualified to take responsibility for our nation's greatest resource, our children. A teacher must provide a safe, well organized, and welcoming classroom environment that creates the opportunity for effective teaching and learning. Within this environment a teacher should use proven techniques, effective technology, and be willing to embrace new educational ideas that diversify education. It is the teacher's responsibility to teach in such a manner that each individual student can not only learn, but also retain the skills and concepts that are taught.
I feel it is the student's responsibility to take advantage of this positive learning environment. A teacher can open the door to opportunity, but the student must ultimately decide whether or not they will walk through. Students should respect their peers, teachers, and themselves. Respect of others will foster an environment in which teamwork skills and long lasting friendships can be created. This respect of others will also help students understand the importance of partaking in positive and peaceful conflict resolution, a skill that is desperately needed in today's society. Students have the responsibility to take great pride in the fact that they are each unique individuals. This self-respect will aid in their development as a student and will assist in individual growth and personal development.
